Make Spreadsheets Your Friend: Step-by-Step Guide

Example 1: Get Started

  1. Begin with a new spreadsheet.
  2. Select cell A2.
  3. Enter your first name.

  1. Select all columns with data.
  2. Various ways to select multiple cells:
    • Hold Command (Mac) or Ctrl (PC) key for nonadjacent cells.
    • Hold Shift key and drag/select with cursor.
    • Drag cursor over cells.
  3. Go to Data > Sort range > Advanced range sorting options.
  4. Check "Data has header row" and ensure "A to Z" is selected.
  5. Choose "Siblings" in the Sort by drop-down menu.
  6. Click Sort to organize by the number of siblings.

Example 5: Use a Formula

  1. Select the next empty cell in the "Siblings" column (C5).
  2. Enter the formula "=C2+C3+C4."
  3. Press Enter to calculate the total number of siblings.
